The last adventure

As the world started to shut down due to Covid-19, I was grabbing a flight to Geneva, a much anticipated weekend escape was would, unbeknownst to me at the time, be my last trip before lockdown.

I had a list of sites that I wanted to visit, and minimal time to do so, or so I thought. The day I arrived was unfortunately the only day I was able to enter any churches or museums,. National shutdown was announced that day, with most attractions and eateries shutting their doors from the following morning.

A lovely walking tour with a local guide provided a welcome break from the talk of lockdowns and viruses, and allowed for a better understanding of Geneva and its role in international business, including the formation of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent. With everything closed, I toured the area, visiting sites and taking photos for future memories.

Overall it was not the wonderful weekend that I had planned. People were stressed, staff at my accommodation were hostile towards foreigners, and the entire weekend went by at a snail’s pace. Hopefully I will be back when the world is calm again.

  1. What a pity! Unusually empty streets and a disappointment but, as you say, also an experience to be there as they go into lockdown
